- Inspired by the King Tito Puente, Boston
based Puerto Rican, multi-instrumentalist Eguie Castrillo pays tribute to the Palladium era. He has played with the likes
of Arturo Sandoval, Dave Valentin, Paquito D'Rivera, Steve Winwood, Giovani Hidalgo, Cachao, Celia Cruz, Michel Camilo and
many others. In his desire to bring the mambo back and recreate the passion and energy of the Palladium Tradition, Castrillo
brings in his own mambo band with no less than twenty talented musicians. The mambo "Con Alma" arranged by Humberto Ramirez
showcasing the timbal skills of professor Castrillo is a fire hazard - it really smokes! Call the fire brigade before you
play this song!! More fiery stuff is arranged by Jose Madera on "Palo Yaya" and "Yeah" and Greg Hopkins on "Nutville". Mr
Ramirez adaptation for this album of Ray Santos' "Caribe" with solos by alto sax player Tim Mayer, trombonist Angel Subero
and bongocero Marc Quinones is also a killer track. To complete this Palladium tribute there is a bolero medley and two smooth
jazz numbers. Well done. - (Luis Libres - MBS).
